Leave out any social networking sites including LinkedIn (unless InMail is your preferred mode of communication). The goal is to make it as easy as possible to find your contact information and request an interview: the fewer variables, the greater chance of success.

Professional Headline

If your resume is an advertisement of why you’d make a great hire, your professional headline is the attention-getting hook to make them want to learn more.

Start with a flattering adjective that puts you and your work in a positive light – something like: thorough, methodical, problem-solving, or innovative.

Then add a word that describes your level of experience: lead, supervising, senior, junior, assistant, etc.

Finally, add your official Biomedical Equipment Technician job title.

These are verbs like optimized, boosted, increased, advanced or solved. Instead of taking up space with passive verbs like managed, performed or operated, highlight the success of your actions before you even get to the details.

Add as many numbers as possible.

You’re in the field of science. Science relies on data, and on your resume, numbers are the measurable data that turns this section from a subjective history of your experience into a detailed account of how your BMET expertise equals success for whichever organization you work for.

Find numbers in the equipment managed, team members trained, size of departments, equipment in network, generated reports and general workload of regular maintenance. Each number you include gives a clear visual of your success and makes you a more attractive candidate for the BMET position.

Include every promotion you’ve received.

Promotions highlight your success from an outside party and validates your previous number claims. Since promotions are neither common nor mandatory, each promotion you include shows a potential employer that your work is worth rewarding and you’re an employee people want to keep around.

  • Dates of attendance
  • Degree(s) obtained
  • Honors or awards received

Unless you were president of the biomedical equipment club, all extracurricular activities can be left off your resume.
