Customer Innovation Centers have been established to enable customer focused collaboration for the development of product ideas and solutions that will lead to establishing long term, strategic business. It exists within regionally based Customer Centers to enable decisions to be owned both locally and rapidly. All Customer Innovation Center activities are to be focused on ensuring designs can be commercialized through New Product Introduction processes at our manufacturing locations, i.e. product companies.

Your Role: The Edwards Vacuum Customer Innovation Center Manager will exemplify collaboration, communication, and curiosity to ensure the architecture, design and strategic benefits of such solutions are consistent with Account, Product, and Operations strategies.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Motivate and coach highly skilled team members from diverse backgrounds to build a strong, cohesive team. In addition, provide guidance and mentorship to maximize their career development.
  • Establish and utilize best known methods and processes to ensure the best, most efficient use of resources
  • Work with Dir, Technical Programs NA on project priorities and deliverables for the IC projects.
  • Provide effective communication and presentations to upper management regarding project progress, partnerships, and benefits.
  • Manage a project team responsible for the design, permitting, safety protocol, funding and construction of a fully functional chemistry lab including the supporting hazardous gas pad. Responsible for ensuring construction management for lab and gas pad facility are on budget and are performing against schedule.
  • Establish and facilitate the needed methodologies and communication in order to move from ideation and prototyping to product commercialization.
  • Utilize team skills to launch asset management and track funding budgets as a part of outfitting the Innovation center with capital equipment and project spending.
  • Ensures that all activities within the Innovation Center or at any location where Innovation Center projects are being executed are safe and compliant. Ensures that all experiments and prototypes are subject to effective and documented safety reviews ahead of any practical activity.
  • Lead the Lab Operations and IC Operations project engineers, provide needed support and resources, and assist in decision making when needed.
  • Responsible for management of the Lab, Emissions, and Abatement Program team for a major local semiconductor customer. This team is responsible for driving the customer roadmap for abatement by first understanding the environmental challenges, collecting necessary data and then proposing abatement products to win futher business. This is a data driven group and will need an individual that has the ability to build trust with this customer quickly.
  • Collaborate with other internal Innovation Center Managers to ensure the best, most efficient use of resources, and the best outcome for Edwards and Edwards' customers.
  • Manage the overall quality of deliverables from the Innovation Center.
  • Work with a common set of tools and processes supported by the central team. This individual will need to put effort into integration of these processes and offering up refinement as needed.
  • Confirm that all ideas and potential ideas are documented and submitted to maximize Edwards' Intellectual Property position.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships by establishing credibility and trust and delivering on commitments.

Skills/ Knowledge/ Experience:

Education level
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred, but alternatively a software or science degree may be considered.

Relevant Previous Experience
  • Minimum 7 years experience in the semiconductor industry including but not limited to applications, process engineering, or system design.
  • Previous experience managing a team is a definite plus.

Other Requirements
  • Effectively manages stakeholder relationships by establishing credibility, collaboration, trust, and delivering on commitments.
  • Solid understanding of customer value drivers, their return on investment, and total cost of ownership.
  • Able to judge and investigate customer requests against future trends, both within the semiconductor industry and the internal product development programs.
  • Proactively looks for opportunites to improve the customers' experience and seeks positive differentiation of products and services versus competition.
  • Understands and supports Atlas Copco values, decentralisation model, brand strategy, and values and effectively utilises the common tools and processes supported by the central team.
  • Understands and supports wider company strategies for customer account, product, and operations. Identifies gaps in strategy and seeks guidance to close gaps, strategies to the team providing direction, and guidance for center.
  • Effectively develops and communicates strategies, plans, and targets to meet customer, team, and facility requirements. Where necessary, consults and communicates changes to plans and/or targets to relevant stakeholders.
  • Proactively seeks and shares process and product improvement opportunities (including lessons learned) to relevant stakeholders. Where improvement is required, works with relevant stakeholders to ensure improvements are addressed which meet all stakeholder's needs.
  • Manages the overall quality of the deliverables from the Innnovation Center and ensures every project is data driven; ability to effectively - so that the need can be prioritized, and the future benefit can be made visible.
  • Evaluates all ideas using concept selection process and accurately manages the recording of ideas to ensure IP integrity for the company.
  • Champions the Atlas Copco Code of Practice and manages business processes to ensure the effective allocation of resources in a way that maximises returns ensuring no internal competition.
  • Ensures that products developed in Innovation Centers can be seamlessly transferred to NPI projects in Product Companies.
  • Clearly and effectively communicates to a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring consideration is given to the target audience i.e. language, culture, roles, and situation. Able to clarify if message has been received and adapt style to clarify understanding.
  • Effectively establishes a collobrative network throughout the various stakeholder groups ensuring diversity is respected and used to leverage a solution for best business outcome.
  • The ability to work with other Innovation Center Managers to negotiate acceptable, mutually supportive solutions for all (Innovation Centers, Product Managers, Product Companies, and Account Managers). Where differences are unavoidable (for example - a different solution to the same problem), the reasons must be cleary attributable to achievement of the best business outcome, and the impact of the difference must be analyzed.
  • Experienced in building a strong cohesive team with highly skilled members.
  • Able to foster a climate that values customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively motivates and coaches team members and identifies potential successors for own role
